Obituary of Beatrice A. Evans

Beatrice Ann (Bea), Evans, 90, of Long Beach, California, passed away on October 29th,2017 in St John's Home, Rochester, NY. A Memorial service was held at St John's, on November 8th with Chaplin Chava Redonnet officiating. Cremation will follow. Merton H. Kays, Honeoye Falls, NY will be handling the funeral arrangements. Bea was born in Kentfield, Ca. to Thomas and Hagar Batman on March 26th, 1927. She went to high school at Tamalpais High and went on to earn a degree in Occupational Therapy from Marin College. She was the Chief Occupational Therapist at the VA Hospital in Long Beach, California when she retired after nearly 40 years of service. Dedicated to helping others, Bea touched many lives during her professional career. She was noted for her creative inventions and innovations that enabled disabled veterans to live more independent and fulfilling lives. Bea is survived by her sister Peggy terLaare, her son Kent (Diane) of Lima, New York, three grandchildren (Benjamin, Samuel and Keegan) and a stepdaughter, Diane Wagenbrenner of Clearwater, Florida. Bea was truly an able and professional woman, loved by many. A happy spirit who enjoyed teaching others and sharing fun times with family, cooking, camping, walking with nature and sharing creative arts and crafts. One notable memory I had growing up was when we used to go walking out in the Mojave desert washes searching for driftwood and beautiful rocks. She taught me how to create wonderful sand candles using the items we had collected. In the spring time we loved walking in the rolling hills of California collecting wild flowers and creating pressed flower arrangements. I have wonderful memories creating family dinners over the holidays, which she was especially fond of sharing, including setting a fancy table, utilizing beautiful dishware and place mats from Mexico. Bea added color, aesthetics and the joy of creating to my life and I thank her for that experience. She gave me love, family and appreciation. The world benefited by her life and that contribution is will never be lost but will go forward as living memory. Love and Hugs to you, Diane, your stepdaughter.
