Dr. Qazi was an amazing person! I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and our first meeting with him was filled with kindness and a clear understanding of our path forward. He filled us with confidence in his ability to help us through that difficult journey and in our eyes, then and now, We felt he was a genius in his field. He was so very intelligent and we had many conversations about travel and family. We are filled with sadness to learn of his passing. Deepest condolences to his family.

In 1996 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Dr. Qazi spent an hour and a half with my husband and I explaining my treatment in detail. After my first chemo treatment, he called our home to see how I was doing. I saw him until my 10th cancer free anniversary and sobbed all the way back to work. My heart is broken for his family. I will always be grateful to him as I am now almost 28 years cancer free.

We met with Dr. Qazi for the first time on December 7, and were absolutely shocked to learn that he had passed two days later. We did come away from our appointment very impressed with this wise, seeing more, understanding doctor with a wonderful sense of humor that immediately had our faith in him. When I first started at Highland back in 2000, Dr Qazi made me feel so welcome and helped me learn that nothing can't be fixed. I was a secretary and he still made feel equal. His pleasantries and smiles made my day and I always enjoyed seeing him. He would say hello in the hallways and always made my day. I have thought of him often through the years and was sad to read about this. Prayers and peace to his family.

I am heartbroken to hear of Dr. Qazi's passing. I had Lymphoma in my stomach in 2013. He was so knowledgeable and sweet to my husband and myself. He explained everything thoroughly and never rushed me out of my appointment. Dr.Quazi had a great sense of humor always complimenting me on my clothes, bracelet, rings because everything matched! He made you feel comfortable, and I respected this gentle man. We were always looking toward the 10 year mark of my remission and it just happened in October! I just saw Dr.Qazi on December 7, 2013, and we were so happy that the 10 year mark came! I also want to mention that Dr.Qazi was the one to find out I was anemic and treated me for that too. I am so sad I won't be able to see him again, but I will pray for him every day and for his family. What a loss to so many. My sincere condolences to Mrs.Qazi and his two sons! Beverly Gelormini

I had the honor of being Dr. Qazi's clinic nurse for the last 7.5 years. We were paired up by circumstance. It quickly became apparent that we would make an incredible team. He was my mentor, friend, father figure. I can not even begin to tell you how much I respected him. He always had my back, taught me something every day and most importantly, made me laugh with every interaction. He was hysterical and I truly loved working with him. I will miss him so very much. My deepest condolences to Dr.Q’s family, he was such a gentle human full of knowledge, compassion & truths. I am forever grateful & thankful for the best care I always received from him. He always entered the room with the biggest smile and the best compliments, & then went straight to the point of my visit. I loved that He always asked about my daughter and how school/college was going. He answered the tough questions and when he told me not to worry he definitely meant it. I trusted him 100% i questioned him from time to time lol, & I’d always apologize after, he told me to never apologize & to Nvr stop asking questions. & when my test results came in & my phone would ring I knew it would be him on the other end reassuring me everything was Fine. I’m so heartbroken, I didn’t get to see him at my last visit. I was looking forward to my appointment in March.., May you his family find comfort in knowing he was such a wonderful comforting human who helped me & so many. I’m so very very sry.. Rhonda Skutt

I had an honor to work with Dr. Qazi on a very busy hematology consult service as a hem/onc fellow during all three years of my fellowship. He was a great doctor and mentor. I had an unique way to interact with the patients and their families - he was able to say something positive and encouraging even in most difficult and complex situations. He often reminded us fellows about importance of work/life balance and not to forget about ourselves when caring for other. He will be greatly missed.

What a true loss this is for our community… but what an incredible mark he left on so many… Thank you for your absolute truth, humor, intelligence, and compassion that you showed to our family Dr. Qazi. You treated my Dad, and his ‘entourage’, as we all piled into your exam room, with such kindness and patience. You would always ask a heartfelt “What can I do for you?” every time you saw our Dad, and would patiently listen and answer all of our questions. Your humor and excellent bedside manner made such a difference and even helped ease the pain when we learned that the outcome wouldn’t be what we hoped. In the end, you gave our Dad, and all of us, a sense of peace, knowing you tried everything. We will never, ever forget you and can only hope that those in your profession carry on your legacy and treat patients with your same integrity, passion, and humor. I will miss my “quarterback” of 24 years. He saw me through two breast cancer diagnoses and chemo and also was following me with MGUS. He always asked after my children. I can not stop crying, my heart is broke, I met Dr. Qazi when I was 42 I was diagnosed with AML. I love this man , I can't imagine not seeing him any more. I still remember when he and Mrs. Qazi came to dinner at my parents home the best time ever. I still hear him calling me Angie. My will never have the trust and faith for anyone like I did for him. Raman Qazi was my younger brother. In Kashmir we had occasions to get together and it was he who introduced me to the pleasures of reading. However fate scattered us on far apart paths and we lost all touch. We met again only once in Boston during dear Meera's engagement. Even though we have not been close, his passing away came as a great shock to me. It has taken me two days to bring myself to express my feelings. I am one of those patients of Dr. Qazi who adored him. I was 40 with a young daughter when diagnosed with breast cancer, and he held my hand — literally and figuratively — throughout treatment decisions, the aggressive surgeries, and chemotherapy. Such compassion! Interestingly, he sized me up right away, and in the days when charts were still written by hand and never shared, he realized I believed knowledge was power. Each time we met, he started leaving my chart in the room while he exited, so I could read the reports and tests and be able to ask more questions. Boy did I appreciate that! I think it was 20 years of survivorship when he discharged me as his patient. I gave him a heartfelt letter, thanking him for his unceasing warmth, caring, and incredible knowledge. He took my hand and left me with his sage advice, telling me with that wonderful look on his face (captured in the beautiful photo on this site) that I was one of the lucky ones, and that I should pay it forward, using my lucky life to go out and do good for others. Isn’t that beautiful? Doing good for others is exactly what Dr. Qazi did his whole life. Thanks to his family for sharing a wonderful person with us. I send my deepest condolences. Patrice Mitchell

I am so sad to hear of Dr. Qazi's passing. I worked with Dr. Qazi way back in the 80's. and off and on throughout the years. I remember being of afraid of him when I first met him. He was gruff and short with words. But....... as years past, I just loved him, his dry sense of humor and his way of caring for patients. He will be missed. I am so sad to hear of Dr. Qazi's passing. He was one of the most caring and kind individuals I have ever met. His sense of humor would always brighten up the room. He taught me so much through his interactions with fellows, colleagues, and most of all, patients. His compassion at the bedside was unparalleled. I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Qazi's passing. I started at Highland Hospital many years ago and Dr. Qazi went out of his way to help and make sure myself and my team were comfortable in the space. Dr Raman Qazi was one of my mentors during Highland Hospital residency over 30 yrs ago. I was in awe of his phenomenal intellect and exceptional clinical acumen. Dr. Qazi was an amazing physician and person. He was incredibly knowledgeable and saw the inner person. I was Dr. Qazi’s nurse practitioner. I learned so much from him about hematological disorders and about life. Dr. Qazi was very observant and didn’t like to see anyone suffering. He once told me his approach to all patients was “What can I do for you?” He told me to always keep this in my mind when I see a patient. He told me to always be kind and patient. Dr. Qazi always advocated for his patients and those around him. His humor combined with his caring bedside manner made him loved by all his patients. Whenever I would see one of Dr. Qazi’s patients for a follow up visit they always ask how he is doing and ask me to pass a message along to him. He will never be forgotten by those that knew him for he has left an everlasting mark of love in our hearts. And his words of wisdom will live on as we continue on this journey through life.
