Obituary of Lawrence A. Surdick
Lawrence (Larry) Alfred Surdick , 83, of Pittsford NY passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, New York, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 24, 1941, Larry graduated from Bethal Park High School in 1959. He then served his country in the United States Navy as a Morse code Radioman on the USS Willard Keith. In the fall of 1962, he married the love of his life, Kathleen (Kay) Whalen. They moved from PA to WV to VA and finally settled in Pittsford, NY, raising 4 beautiful children along the way! Larry was a successful businessman and salesman. He started his own companies LAS Associates (1971) and FAIM Reps (1991), still operating today, selling Commercial Ice Machines and Water Filters. (He was affectionately known as the 'Ice Man'). They have evolved into a family run company with accounts all over the world.
Larry has been a friend of Bill W. for over 45 years.
Larry's love of the water and travel stayed with him – owning boats and vacation homes near the beach (Outer Banks NC), traveling extensively, taking many cruises and trips all over the Caribbean, Europe and he especially loved the Panama Canal Cruise.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years Kathleen (Whalen) Surdick, his sister Rebecca Surdick-Pifer and her husband Doug Pifer of Shepherdstown, WV, his children Linda and her husband Mark Fishbaugh of North Hampton, NH , Darlene Beck and her partner Eric Nuccio of Zephyrhills, Fl, Todd and his wife Kim (Thayer) of Avon, NY, and Kate and her husband Peter Neuman of Springwater, NY. He was a proud Pop Pop to Ethan Fishbaugh of Exeter NH, Austin Fishbaugh (and his wife Stephanie) of Epping NH, Emily Fishbaugh of Brooklyn, NY, Mary Beck of Denver Co, Allyson Surdick and Jake Surdick of Avon, NY, Charles Neuman (and his wife Ciarra) of Honeoye Falls, NY, and Teresa Neuman of Springwater, NY. He was looking forward to the birth of his first Great Grandchild this fall (2025).
He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Tressa (Hoffman) Surdick.
His Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 9:30 am at St Louis Church, 64 S Main St, Pittsford NY. Followed by a gathering at 11:00 am in All Season's gathering room at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Rd, Pittsford, NY.
