Obituary of Robert E. Weiler
Robert E. Weiler, age 93, went to be with the Lord May 24, 2025. Survived by his wife of 71 years, Barbara; sons William of CA and John (Sue) of Rush; grandsons Robert R. Weiler of Buffalo and Jackson W. Weiler of CA; sister, Joan Gertz and several nieces and nephews of Lynchburg, VA. Predeceased by sons Jeffrey Robert (1959-1973) and Edward James (1960-1963) and brother James Weiler.
Bob grew up in a house on a high hill overlooking the Hudson River, just south of Albany NY. He then graduated from high school in Delmar, NY. He then attended NYS State Maritime College for two years, followed by a BSME from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, followed by a tour of duty as chief engineering officer on the USS Cross, a destroyer escort, followed by a Harvard MBA. Bob had management careers in several companies, including Foster Wheeler Corp., General Railway Signal, Xerox (retiree), Stone Construction, and Westplex Corp, followed by retirement as president of Chapin Manufacturing in Batavia.
Bob was totally committed to maintaining and strengthening manufacturing in the U.S. Bob was a deer hunter, ice fisherman, golfer, cross country skier, and was involved in his sons' motocross racing.. He played handball at the JCC for five decades, He was a member of the Rochester Nordic Ski Club, the Harvard Business School Club, the Rush United Methodist Church, and was on the zoning board of the Town of Rush.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 11 am at the Rush United Methodist Church, followed by a repast in the church dining room.
