Obituary of Richard M. Meyer

Richard Martin Meyer April 25, 1939 – June 7, 2025 Richard Martin Meyer passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2025, at the age of 86.

He is predeceased by his beloved parents, F. Peter and Vivian Meyer. Richard is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Jean; his devoted children, Lauri (Carter) Lucas and Greg (Aileen) Meyer; and his cherished grandchildren, Dillon Lucas, Vivian Lucas, Roisin Meyer, Eoin Meyer, and Mairead Meyer.

He is also survived by his siblings: Peter Meyer, Michael (Marlene) Meyer, Barbara (Anthony) Cellura, Stephen (Jo Anna) Meyer, Martha Guchi, Thomas (Vicki) Meyer, Daniel Meyer, and Jane (Larry) Huey.

Richard was a man of deep love, quiet strength, and unwavering generosity. His family was the center of his world. He poured his heart into raising his children and supporting his grandchildren, always present with guidance, warmth, and pride.

"Papa" beamed watching his grandchildren grow—celebrating their accomplishments in dance and sports. For over 40 years, he was an amateur dance technical director and a trusted backstage leader, ensuring every recital was a success.

He served honorably in the U.S. Navy and remained deeply proud of his service and fellow sailors. A technically gifted and graceful man, he carried those qualities into a long and fulfilling career at Eastman Kodak, retiring in 1993. He continued working as a crane inspector, traveling across New York State before fully retiring in 2010.

A lover of golf, Richard was proud of his two holes-in-one. He also found great joy in traveling—whether it was researching family genealogy, snowmobiling in the Rockies, fishing in Canada, relaxing in Hilton Head, or visiting Hawaii, Greece, and Egypt. The family extends special thanks to the Ontario and Yates County hospice teams for their compassion and care, especially Caroline and Diana.

Friends may call Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from 4-7 pm at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc. 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 11 at 10 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 534 Oxford Street, Rochester. Burial in St. Patricks Cemetery, Victor, NY.
