Vicki, I'm so grateful to have had you as a mentor and a friend, even if we crossed paths more rarely than I would have liked. Your impact on all of us has been extraordinary. For myself, you were among the first who taught me what leadership should look like, and that listening is more important than digging in ones heels. I will miss you.

No words are enough to share my memories with Vicki...
We not only worked together but we also were great friends. Beyond the meetings and emails, we were grandmothers who loved sharing photos and stories of our families. The day I had planned to write her to share the current photos of our grandchildren I received the very sad news. You never know what you have done together was the last.
I feel incredibly lucky to have Vicki on the small ACM-W Europe executive committee from the very beginning. She was a kind and wise friend and supporter during our journey to establish ACM-W Europe and start womENcourage Celebrations of women in computing. We first met face to face on December 12, 2012, in Vienna where we decided on our target, goals and activities. With her experience and accomplishments, she has always been a caring supporter.
She was very prompt in responding to all emails and careful to attend all meetings. I am so thankful to her for taking responsibility for presenting ACM-W Europe when I was not able to attend meetings. Her help to grow our network and be an advocate for women in computing has been very valuable. Without her hard work especially for registrations, the first womENcourage Celebration would not have been successful.
When I wanted her to inform us about her success stories she would smile and say she was very poor at self-promotion.
As an advocate for women in computing, she has been a wonderful role model to image of computing more attractive for women. I will miss her wisdom, her kindness, and our shared stories but her legacy will live in the community she helped to build.

Given her leadership within ACM, I was always impressed that Vicki continued to contribute to accessibility research. She always exuded warmth and confidence when I saw her at conferences, whether it was co-organizing workshops or watching her give keynote talks. I know her presence will be missed by all within the ACM community. Sincerest condolences to her family, and I pray they can find some peace knowing what an impact Vicki had on the world of computing.

Vicki was one of the good ones - brilliant, humble, and infinitely kind and generous with her compassion and her time. She championed my ideas within ACM, challenged my thinking about women in computing in the best and most constructive ways, and provided some of the most valuable, helpful parenting advice I've ever received. The world is a better place because she was in it, and she will be deeply missed.

I met Vicki at our ACM Europe board meetings and from the very first meeting Vicki was a great help in my role. Vicki was instrumental in helping me feel comfortable and confident in the decisions I made and the activities the council was carrying out. We also shared some leisure time at the HLF in Heidelberg with her husband and I always enjoyed her company. We''ll miss her...

Vicki contributed so much to the ACM, CHI, and ageing and accessibility research, and this feels like a huge loss to our community.
Vicki Hanson was one of the few people leading the way in technology and ageing research when my academic career shifted in this direction. At first, I admired her work from afar. I still remember when I first saw Vicki present at a CHI conference, as ACM President, and was so impressed by how confident and warm she seemed. I found it inspiring that a woman in my field, someone I looked up to, held such an important leadership role. I finally got the chance to meet Vicki in Glasgow at CHI 2019, when we co-organised a workshop together, led by her daughter Bran. To be honest, I was a little starstruck at the time, but I loved watching Vicki and Bran interact as both mother and daughter and professional colleagues. I am so pleased that Bran is carrying on Vicki's legacy doing such important and meaningful research. My deepest condolences to Vicki's family.

Vicki’s passing truly feels like the end of an era. My most vivid memories of her go back to our time together at IBM Research. I still remember her speaking passionately at a town hall in the Hawthorne building about how deeper awareness of accessibility challenges drives better innovation for everyone.
After we both left IBM, it was a joy to reconnect when I joined the ACM Council and she was ACM CEO. In every interaction, Vicki was a source of wisdom, care, and genuine compassion for all whose lives she touched.
You will be deeply missed, Vicki, but your legacy lives on in the many communities you nurtured and strengthened!

Vicki was one of the most influential and inspiring people in my professional career as a mentor and friend. She was always looking for ways to contribute and amplify others' potential. That's still something I make sure to pass on to my own students.

Dr. Vicki has always been a source of inspiration to me. I met her through ACM India in the city of Cochin in India and her commitment to ACM and its Computing activities, combined with her innate ability to embrace simplicity from all directions including being comfortable with India and its food and culture is a quality that inspires me!

Vicki was one of the most incredible leaders I have met. She led the ACM through arguably one of the most uncertain times and spearheaded some of the most impactful initiatives which would've seemed unlikely before (ie open access research!)
I owe so much to you Vicki; thank you for your unwavering support and guidance throughout the last decade - even from before joining the ACM.
Your leadership and contributions will have a massive positive impact in the field for generations to come, and you will continue to be a role model for strategic, impactful and selfless leadership.

I still remember Vicki's ASSETS 2014 keynote, where she impressed upon the audience that "older adults" prefer we steer clear of degrading euphemisms "elderly," "senior," "golden-ager." Seeing a woman and an HCI researcher at the helm of our research field (Accessible Computing) and our professional organization (ACM) was deeply inspiring to a junior woman researcher. Thanks, Vicki.

Vicki was truly dedicated to her professional community. Just like Queen Elizabeth, Vicki was an embodiment of the idea of "service leadership". Her passing is a huge loss to the computing community.
