Margaret Rebman Snoddy Obituary
December 21, 1925 – March 10, 2026
A hard life well lived
Margaret Rebman Snoddy passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at URMC Hospice.
The youngest of seven children, Margaret lost her mother at the age of four. She was raised by her father and older siblings during the hardships of the Great Depression and World II. Those early challenges helped shape her strong character and fostered a lifelong love of nature and the outdoors.
In 1944, she married James Snoddy, and together they purchased a farm in Honeoye Falls, where they became devoted stewards of the land. They kept horses and raised their two daughters there, building a life centered around family and the natural world.
While her children were young, Margaret worked from home as a seamstress. Later, she returned to school to study secretarial work and eventually joined the business office at Genesee Hospital, where she worked until retiring at age 62. Retirement allowed her to spend more time with the family she cherished.
Margaret's "claim to fame" came at age 15, when she won the Monroe County Cherry Pie Baking Contest. Her winning pie advanced her to the state competition, where she again took first place. At the national competition she placed second. The winning baker used honey to sweeten the pie, while Margaret had used white sugar-at a time when sugar was becoming rationed as the United States entered the war effort.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband, James Snoddy; her parents; and all her siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Colleen Snoddy and Carol (Brian) Mulligan; her nieces, Margaret Richardson and Vicky Quinn, both of whom were present and supportive during Margaret's final months; her grandsons, Dan (Amy) Mulligan, Roger (Lauren) Mulligan, and Patrick Mulligan; and her great-grandchildren, Adaleen and Rohan Mulligan. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff who cared for Margaret during her time with Highland Home Care Hospice and the Palliative Care Unit at URMC. Their kindness and compassion made a meaningful difference to Margaret and her family
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 19, at 1 pm at Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc. 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Environmental Defense Fund at edf.org
