Robert E. "Bob" McRae Obituary
Robert Edward McRae, a veteran, 84, passed away peacefully leaving behind a legacy of life centered around family and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hartwell L. McRae, a World War II veteran, and Doris Stone McRae.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Karyl McRae, and their three children, Chad McRae, Todd (Suzanne) McRae and Keri (Michael) Stonehouse who carry forward his values, strength, and sense of humor. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Connor, Sierra, Cameron, Aiden, Ainsley and Aubrey who were truly the shine in his eyes and brought him immeasurable joy.
A special thank you to Bob's caregivers at Teresa House for their kind and caring manner and the boys of '61 Jefferson High, your friendship meant a lot in Bob's life. Jim and Jan, your support has been unwavering.
An avid outdoorsman, Robert found his greatest peace in nature. Whether hunting elk, whitetail deer, turkey, casting a line on a quiet morning, or simply soaking in the stillness of the woods, the outdoors were his happy place. He also generously volunteered his time as a coach, mentor and Boy Scout leader.
Robert will be remembered for his steady presence, his deep love for his family, and the simple, meaningful way he lived his life. His memory will live on in the stories shared and the traditions continued.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 21st at Merton H. Kays Funeral Home from 4–7 pm. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Rush Fire Department: 1971 Rush Mendon Road, Rush, NY 14543 or the Teresa House (teresahouse.org).
