Penelope A. "Penny" Horn Obituary
Penelope A. Horn passed on Tuesday, April 14th, peacefully, after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy(PSP).
Penny was born March 30th, 1943, in Rochester, NY, to parents Duane W. and Doris V. Riley. She graduated from John Marshall High School and then attended Continental Beauty School. Penny was an accomplished hairstylist who owned her own beauty salon in Rochester, which she then passed on to her sister, Sharon. She was also a teacher at Continental Beauty School. After having children, she was a devoted stay-at-home mom until she started working at Bloomfield Central School as a library aide. She retired in 1994.
Penny was known for her independence, strong will, and outspoken nature. She was a lover of animals and a long-term supporter of the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm. She also supported Planned Parenthood and believed in the right of women to affordable and safe healthcare. Penny was passionate about reading, medieval history, and loved flowers and gardening. She was a loyal friend and cherished her time in Florida with her husband and their friends, Sonny and Johanne DiCenzo. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Penny was predeceased by her sister, Sharon Serio. She is survived by her husband Karl H. Horn and children Chris K.(Janine)Horn and Wendy E.(Matthew Glanville)Horn. Her beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Axel, Jackson, Willow, and Felix, and niece Stacy Serio and nephew James Serio (Shannon). She also has 3 great nephews/nieces, Nicholas, Zachary, and Riley.
The family would like to extend thanks to the Palliative/Hospice Care staff at Strong Hospital who cared for her in her last days.
