Dave was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Patricia Treat of Mendon, NY


Dave is survived by his 3 sons, Shaun of Pittsford, NY, Ryan (Ann) of Charleston, S, and Devin of Myrtle Beach, SC. Two grandchildren, Ellison Aurelia and James Parker of Charleston, SC, and good friend Sandi Sidoti of Henrietta, NY.


Born on October 15, 1943, and raised on the family farm in Mendon, NY, Dave was a direct decedent of Cornelius Treat an early founder of the town of Mendon. Dave was in the fourth graduating class of McQuaid Jesuit High School in 1961.


After attending St John Fisher University, he joined the New York State Police in 1966. Dave loved being a New York State Trooper and was stationed throughout the state. He finally got to Troop E, the Fingerlakes area and was stationed at SP Henrietta. During his 20 years in Troop E, Dave was assigned to the first state police recruiting team, promoted to Sergeant, then to Station Commander and then to Zone Sargeant of SP Henrietta. He was the second Public Information Officer for Troop E, served as the Acting First Sergeant for the troop and acted as Zone Commander for Zone 1. His last assignment for the troop was First Training Officer Coordinator. Dave represented the State Police on the Monroe County Law Enforcement Council, 911 Operating Practices Board and was Chairman of the Awards Committee for the Rochester Safety Council. Dave retired from the State Police in 1991.


After retirement from the State Police, Dave became a Security Director at the Palace Theater in Myrtle Beach, SC where he provided security to high profile entertainers. He then joined the US Marshall Service, first in South Carolina and then in Rochester, NY. He was assigned as a Federal Court Security Officer protecting Federal Judges. Dave retired again, but wanted to stay busy, so he became a part time Driver Instructor for AAA.


Dave was President of the Fingerlakes Chapter of the Association of former New York State Troopers for 20 years. He sat on the Governing Board of retired troopers.


Dave also served as a National Director for the Family Motor Coach Association for 5 years.


Friends may attend his Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 601 Edgewood Ave, Brighton, NY on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 9:30 am. Contributions in memory of Dave Treat can be made to the New York State Troopers Foundation or to St. Judes Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN.


Anyone who would like to share their favorite stories and memories of "Sarge" Dave Treat, his family would like to invite you to Ferrari's Pizza Bar in East Rochester, 349 W. Commercial Street, East Rochester, NY 14445 from 12 pm to 2 pm, directly after his burial in White Haven Memorial Park.
