Gerald G. Lonthair, known to many as “Digger,” of Honeoye Falls, formerly of Rush, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at the age of 79 after a courageous battle with cancer. 

He was born April 26, 1947, to the late Carol and Jay in Rush, NY.  Gerald devoted 29 years of service to the Rochester Police Department, where he distinguished himself through service on the Vice Squad, Recruit Counselor, S.W.A.T., and most notably, as Lieutenant and Commander of the Tactical Unit (TACT).  After retirement, he served as the Director of Security for East Irondequoit CSD for over 15 years.  In addition, Gerald was a lifetime member of the Rush and Honeoye Falls Fire Department, he served as Assistant Chief and Warden for the Honeoye Falls Fire Department.

He is predeceased by his brother John “Jack” Ramsey, sisters Joanne Prachel, and Nancy Murphy, and grandson Christopher Kauder.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Susan, his children, Jay (Alice) Lonthair, Andrew (Sharon) Lonthair, Melisa (Ben) Kauder, Jamie (Andy Coakley) Lonthair, his grandchildren, Joshua Lonthair, Brenden Kauder, Dana (Jessica) Lonthair, Meagan (Noah English) Lonthair, Jessie (Ty) Jensen, Amelia (Jeremiah) Brosovic, Gerald G. Lonthair II, Grace Kauder, Harry Hansen, and Olivia Coakley; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Friends may call Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 2-6 pm at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc. 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls, NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Honeoye Falls Fire Department for the Gerald G. Lonthair Scholarship.
