Bernard "Bernie" S. Drowne, a beloved father, grandfather, and community leader, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, in Brandon, Mississippi, at the age of 103. He was born on January 3, 1923, in Rochester, New York. His long and full life touched many, and his legacy will be cherished by all who knew him.


A man of dedication and service, Bernie proudly served his country during World War II. As a veteran honored with both the Silver Star and the Purple Heart, he exemplified courage and commitment. After his military service he returned home to work in the family business; Urban S Drowne & Son, Plumbing and Heating. Later he purchased Pride Hardware and merged the two businesses together. He continued to serve his community as mayor of Honeoye Falls and was an active member of the Rotary Club.


Beyond his professional achievements, Bernie was deeply committed to volunteer work, serving as a volunteer first responder and fireman. He was passionate about golf and delighted in preparing grand seafood feasts for family and friends. These interests reflected his joy in bringing people together and serving those around him.


Bernie was preceded in death by his wife, Corinne Sleight Drowne; his daughter, Pamela Drowne Braddock; his sister, Harriet Overslaugh; and his brother, Alson Drowne. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Drowne Batzing; his partner, Donna Harvey; his granddaughter, Jennifer Ainsworth Hughes; his great-grandson, Cannon C. Hughes; his sister, Ila Perrone; and his nieces, Fran Cochran, Kathy Morehouse, Carol Evans, and Laura Pringle.


A memorial service to honor Bernie's life will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd at 11: 00 am at Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, located at 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472. Family, friends, and community members are invited to celebrate his remarkable life and enduring legacy.


In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Bernie, supporting the fight against the disease that ultimately claimed his life.


Bernie Drowne will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his country. His warmth, humor, and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
