Obituary of Edward A. Gormel

Edward A. Gormel, of Honeoye Falls NY, passed away on November 28th, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones at Rochester General Hospital. Edward was born in Nunda NY to the late Henry and Agnes (Pfuntner) Gormel. He graduated from St John Fisher College in Rochester NY with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting in June of 1967. Edward utilized this degree in various employments consisting of: Income Tax Specialist at Price Waterhouse and Company; Auditor at Monroe Community College; Supervising Accountant at Monroe Community College; Assistant County Health Director of Monroe County Health Department; Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Assistant Professor of Accounting at Monroe Community College. Edward met the love of his life, Kay Towne, in Nunda NY. The two wed on April 28th of 1962. Edward adored Kay every day of their 61 years of marriage. Together they had 1 daughter, Leigh, who completed their hearts' and worlds'. Edward was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was quick witted, strong willed, loved to laugh, and loved to share the pride he had for his family. Surviving to keep his legacy alive are his wife Kay Gormel; daughter Leigh (Joseph) O'Leary; three grandchildren Keely O'Leary and Kamryn (Bryan) Zeller and Kade O'Leary; two sisters Patricia (Bruce) Baker and Elizabeth Hober; and many nieces and nephews. Family and Friends may call from 4pm to 7pm on December 8th, 2023 at Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, 59 Monroe Street Honeoye Falls. A Catholic Mass will be held on December 9th, 2023 from 1pm at St. Ann's Community Chapel, 1500 Portland Avenue Rochester. Edward was an avid bird watcher, and Bald Eagle lover. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Wild Wings at Mendon Ponds Park.
