Obituary of Raymond J. Saxton
Raymond J. Saxton of Wayland, died Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. He was age 66. Ray was born March 23, 1948 in Wayland, NY to the late Douglas and Leona Vogt Saxton.
Ray served his Country in the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam Era from 1967-1971. He was 1st Reconnaissance Battalion during his active war time and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal with 3 Stars, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Markman Badge. When he returned home to the United States from Viet Nam on December 3, 1969, Ray was then stationed at MCICo, Marine Barracks, 8th & I in Washington, DC which is the oldest active post in the Marine Corps from 1969-1971.
Ray enjoyed all that life could offer him. He would fish from sunup to sundown; hunt when his health allowed and his biggest passion was cooking. From family gatherings at Reynolds to the quiet corner of his kitchen, he was always cooking. Ray was not rich with money, but he was wealthy with the love and support that his family gave him. If he had a nickel to give, he would give you a dime and the shirt off of his back. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
