Obituary of Laura M. Chaffer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura McCarthy Chaffer on September 18, 2024 at the age of 65. Laura was born on March 16, 1959 in Rochester, New York. She remained in the Rochester area (Honeoye Falls) all her life. Laura is survived by her husband, partner and friend, John Chaffer; her sons, John (Jack) and James (Jim) Chaffer who were the pride and joy of her life, and her dogs, Lacy and Ollie, who were the lucky recipients of Laura's endless love and care. Laura is predeceased by father, John (Jack) McCarthy and survived by her mother, Joanna (Jody) McCarthy, four sisters, Molly McCarthy, Kathy Clas, Ellen Rookey and Amy McCarthy, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and co-workers. Laura was exceptionally smart with an unwavering work ethic. After graduating from Pittsford Mendon High School in 1977, Laura attended SUNY College at Cobbleskill followed by Monroe Community College where she received her degree in nursing. Laura worked at Strong Memorial Hospital for 36 years in numerous departments, most recently the Cardiology Department (436) the past 7 years. She was a nursing legacy with the utmost devotion to her patients and co-workers. Her colleagues considered her the matriarch of the department, always giving advice and support. Laura was an animal lover through and through. From childhood and throughout her life, she loved and cared for dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds, recently spending time caring for rescue dogs. As a teenager, she spent many days at High View Farms riding horses and competing in shows across the northeast. We will miss Laura forever, especially her infectious laugh and intelligent and practical advice to life's challenges. In lieu of flowers please consider donating in Laura's name to Lollypop Farm. Services are to be held at Northridge Church, 2090 S. Clinton Ave Rochester, NY 14618 on October 19th at 1pm.
