I got the pleasure of caring for George and Doris for 3 years at the Avon Nursing Home. His gentle smile, hearty hellos and big belly laughs will be greatly missed. He was always a gentleman right to the end, waving hello at all he passed and a gentle nudge of encouragement to those around him. God bless you George... have a cup of coffee for us!

Mr Pettis has been a part of my life in some way for as long as I remember. First, he and his family were just people I knew of in our small town. Later, he became my brother's Father-in-Law, and part of the family...yay! I had a new "sister", who a wonderful Dad, Mom, and sis' Julie. I was lucky enough to have worked for George a bit, on and off, when I was in my early 20's. He had retired from the Fire Department and was doing college photo ID cards. It was wonderful to have spent that time with him, learning from him, taking the student's photos, chatting during slow times, and genuinely enjoying his company. He had a gentle, warm, reserved, and compassionate manner. He was kind and considerate. I will never, ever forget his wonderful smile, that he shared so generously. A dear friend says that a rare few people in this world have a quality he describes as "A Twinkle." George Pettis definitely had A Twinkle, and always will, in our hearts. I am grateful and honored to have known him. I am so glad he shared "our Barbie," and Doris and Julie with us. He will live on as long as we speak his name. Have a safe journey home, George. We'll miss you.

It was a pleasure to take care of George the past year at Avon Nursing Home. Everyday that I worked I would go see george and doris and tell them about the crazy animals on my farm. George really enjoyed the story I would tell about the ram and the cherry tree george would laugh and have the biggest grin on his face til the next day. George was a wonderful man and he will be sadly missed but his smile will always be with me. God bless.

Dear Doris, Julie, Barb and family,
I am terribly sorry for your loss. George was such a kind and gentle spirit. A man of honor and strength. His job as a fire fighter allowed him to be a hero everyday as he put his life on the line for others. I remember most, he and Gramps stopping over for coffee and helping me to fix things in our first home on Winstead. He and Gramps loved to tell stories and I fondly recall such wonderful memories. Love, Rosie

George is one of the finest firefighters and officers I ever had the pleasure to work for and with. George was a brave and courageous man. His leadership and knowledge made you want to be with him in the heat of the battle. Thank God for a MAN like George Pettis, who know how to train "New Kids how to be good FireFighters".
