Obituary of Edward H. Groet

Edward H. Groet of Mendon passed away peacefully, November 18, 2010 at age 89. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joyce; children, Steve, Glenn (Karen), Cindy (John) Matthews; grandchildren, Daryl (Jill), Darrick (Lyndsay), Zach (Chris), Katy, Travis, Adam and Jared Matthews; five great grandsons; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, John and Nick. Ed retired after 42 years with Eastman Kodak Co., starting out in film testing and leaving as a Senior Publications Editor in the Graphic Market Division. He was so very proud of his career with Kodak; who along with his brother Nick had nearly 90 years employment at Kodak.. Ed was an Army Veteran of WWII, having served from 1942 thru 1946. A First Sergeant, assigned Company "A" 630th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Ed was a very humble and proud man, always respectful of those around him AND respected by all who knew him. Family values were of utmost importance in his life. His needs were simple, he enjoyed the outdoors, loved to hunt and fish; most especially enjoyed the many years at his cottage on Seneca Lake. The Groet family thanks the highly skilled staff in the Palliative Care Unit at Strong Hospital who enabled Ed to pass with dignity and in comfort. Friends may call Saturday, November 20, 2010 from 12 - 2 pm at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc., 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls where services will follow at 2 pm. Burial with Military Honors in Mendon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to WW II Honor Flight, Attn: Diane Gresse, 300 E. Auburn Ave., Springfield, OH 45505.
