Obituary of Edward John Matthews
Ed Matthews was called to eternal rest on September 15, 2017. Born on September 23, 1936, his life was a celebration of family, friends, and service to others. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Beverly (Joint). Also survived by daughter Gail (Mark) Tylec, son Jay (Maria) Matthews, daughter Kay (Floyd) Harvey, daughter LouAnn (John) Lindemann, 10 grandchildren: Sara (Andrew) Tierney, Timothy Tylec, Jacob Tylec, Brielle, Tegan, Justin and Erik Matthews, Jessica Harvey, Emily and Thomas Lindemann; 3 great-grandchildren: Jack, Max and Ben. His brother Raymond (Mary) Matthews, sisters: Helen (Robert) Abbott, Marjorie (Edward) Damaske, Grace (Charles) Carmel, Beverly (Charles) McGory, Marion Matthews, Janet Wemett, Lorraine (Carl) Beach, sister-in-law Pauline Matthews and brother-in-law Larry Levitt. Also, very close cousins George (Barbara) Snyder and Larry Matthews, and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by brothers Bernard, Charles (Linda), and Norman; sisters Joan (Robert) Mader and Ola E. "Betty" Levitt.
Ed was born in Victor, NY to parents Charles and Ola Matthews of Valentown Road. He was a long time resident of Medina, NY prior to moving to Honeoye, NY in 2009. He drove delivery truck for UAP after retiring from Eastman Kodak, Co. He loved traveling to support his grandchildren in their many activities. Friends may recall Ed wearing a straw hat tending his garden, waving at a passerby while riding his bike and participating in the Ionia tractor parade with "Uncle Dick's" Taylor Road Museum. Aside from work and hobbies he loved to serve the Lord as an elder at Trinity Lutheran in Medina and St. Mark in Mendon. He was a frequent blood and apheresis donor at American Red Cross. His life centered around his family, friends and neighbors.
Calling hours will be at Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc. 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls on Wednesday, September 20th from 3-7 pm. Funeral Service will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mendon, NY at 11 am on Thursday September 21st.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Ed with donations to Red Cross Disaster Relief efforts, Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Mark Lutheran Church.
