Obituary of Mary P. Liley
Mary Pisiewski Liley, 98, of Mendon, NY, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Clifton Springs Hospital and Extended Care Facility.
She was born in Windsor, MA, in 1919. She was one of twelve children, the daughter of the late Stanislaw and Katarzyna Pisiewski. She was raised on the family farm in Windsor and attended schools in Windsor and Dalton. She was a graduate of Dalton High School Class of 1937.
She was married to the late Alton L. Liley (born 1916) for 42 years until his passing in 1981.
After graduating from Springfield, MA Cosmetology School, as a trained hairdresser she happily cut the family's hair in the special red haircut chair. She was also employed by Dunkin' Donuts and by the E.H. Pierce Insurance Agency in Dalton, from where she retired in 1984. After her retirement, she resided in Mendon, MA and Mendon, NY with her daughter.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, music and dancing, reading, crossword puzzles, and had a strong love of nature. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was particularly fond of the family's pets. Her smile lit up every room. She passed down her love of cooking Polish food and baking to her family and her secrets for making great pies to her grandchildren. She also loved sewing and knitting and passed these skills down to her daughters and granddaughters as well.
She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Higgins of Syracuse, NY and Bette Delmolino and her husband Leonard of Middleborough, MA, one son, James A. Liley and his wife, Patricia (Savino) of Lawrenceville, GA; seven grandchildren, Mary Higgins Lansley, Dominic Delmolino, Lara Delmolino Gatley, Beth Delmolino Troiano, Christopher Liley, Nicholas Liley, and Kathryn Liley; and eight great grandchildren, Peter, Francesca, Emma, Brooke, Anthony, Erin, Landon, and Luke.
