Obituary of Gerard M D'Hont

Gerard (Jerry) D'Hont of Conesus Lake and Honeoye Falls, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family in his 78th year. Jerry is predeceased by his Father, Cyril, Mother, Margaret, and Sister Yvonne. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 56 years, Judy, daughter, Patricia McCullen, sons Mike (Donna), and Greg (Pamela), seven beautiful grandchildren; Kathryn, Libbie, Emily McCullen, Lauren and Hailey D'Hont and Brady and Chase D'Hont. Jerry is also survived by Brother-in-law George (Michelle) Brennan, Sister-in-law Sally (Joseph) Tantillo, his Aunt Sylvia Michel, several Nephews, and Cousins. Jerry was a Honeoye Falls High School and Ithaca College graduate who returned to his hometown to raise their family with Judy. Jerry made lifelong friends with ease, especially the "Monroe Street Gang". Jerry was extremely active in his community, both as a volunteer and a civil servant: volunteered with the Honeoye Falls Fire Department., served as Mayor of Honeoye Falls and participated on several committees for the Village and the School District. In addition to this, he served on the Parish Council for St Paul of the Cross, was a Scout leader, led the local Lions Club, the HFL Chargers and started a travel soccer team. Jerry was honored to be inducted into the HFL Alumni Hall of Fame. Jerry was a successful businessman and retired as President of The Western NY Floor Company in 2007. Throughout his career, he continued to promote the industry through the Robbins Sports Surfaces Dealer Council and as the President of the Wood & Synthetic Flooring Institute. He was also a trustee for the Carpenters Union annuity fund. Before and after retirement Jerry was an avid downhill skier, boater, bowler, golfer and reader. When Jerry and Judy moved to Conesus Lake year round he became involved with the Conesus Lake Association and also the Lakeville Fire Department as a Commissioner. Jerry stayed busy taking care the lake property with Judy and enjoying their grandchildren's various activities and sporting events. Calling hours will be Thursday, July 5th from 4-7PM at Merton H Kays Funeral Home, 59 Monroe St., Honeoye Falls. Funeral Mass on Friday, July 6th at 10:30AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6591 Richmond Mills Rd, Livonia NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Wilmot Cancer Center, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester NY 14642 in memory of Jerry.
