Obituary of Sam L. Giordano
Sam L. Giordano
Our dear Sammie passed from this life on December 24th 2018 at age 90. Ge was born in Rochester New York November 17th 1928, the son of the late Sam and Margaret Giordano, and enjoyed a marriage of 64 years with the late Jean T. Giordano; a faithful husband, caring father, grandfather, great grandfather and true friend of many. As a boy, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. As a young, man he was a dutiful soldier in the Korean conflict and was decorated with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Employed by Kodak for 40 years, he literally worked his way from cleaning boilers to designing machines, retiring in early 1986.
Sam's sharp mind was carried in a strong body. He took great pride in his membership at Turners and could be found judging many regional gymnastic competitions. He also enjoyed golf. Even when his failing eyesight made him more dependent than he liked, he could still be found on the links with his friends who would point him in the right direction.
Known to us as Papa, he is survived by his devoted daughter Linda Houley [Joseph]; his loving son Thomas [Faye], his grandchildren: Andrew Houley, Virginia Houley, Isabella Giordano, and great grandson, Gareth Michael Houley. Sadly, his oldest son Daniel predeceased him. Known as Babe, he is also survived by his sister Margie Cammarano. He was predeceased by his brother Anthony, sisters Kathryn Laico, Prudy Nasca and Jean Bellanco. A year ago, after his wife Jean passed, it was noted that Sam was the last of the generation of parents from the old neighbors on Nile drive: the Reeves, the Gundrys and the Blakes.
