Obituary of Lawrence H. Smith
Larry Smith, passed away on May 25, 2019, at the age of 74 years. Born in 1944 in Albany, Larry grew up in Brighton and lived most of his life in Honeoye Falls.
Larry had a successful career for 30+ years as an insurance executive in the Rochester area but was best known for his love of skiing. He was a self proclaimed Ski Bum (where he earned the nickname "Smitty") working at Bristol Mountain in both the ski school and race club. Smitty was well known in many ski circles and even helped coach some olympic hopefuls. Killington VT. was lucky enough to have him working in their Alpine Training Center and he ventured West as far away as Colorado and Utah and even New Zealand to teach. Smitty loved his life on the slopes and took every opportunity to pass that love on to the next generation. He looked forward to vacations where the snow was fresh every year.
Larry is survived by his sister, niece and nephew, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and many long time friends.
Services Friday 1 pm at Birchwood Mosoleum in Whitehaven Memorial Park (meet at main gate at 12:45). A Celebration of Larry's life will follow starting at 4pm on the grounds at the Mendon Fire Hall (Carnival). Memorial contributions to the Mendon Fire Department.
