Obituary of Curtis W. Barker

Curtis W. Barker of Penn Yan, NY died unexpectantly at his home on West Bluff Drive on Saturday September 28th, 2013. Curt was born July 23, 1927 in Rochester, NY, later residing in Honeoye Falls, Bloomville NY, and retiring to Keuka Lake NY. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, of 60 years and his daughters, Jennifer L. Sawyer (William), Lisa J. Kanaley (James) and Sarah Jane Rice (Jeff); grandchildren, James D. Kanaley (Rebecca), Jessica L .Kanaley, Samantha M. Barker, Lee Curtis Barker, Danielle G. Barker; great-grandchild Liam James Kanaley; nieces ,nephews and several cousins, including his "almost brother" Jack R. Barker. Curt was preceded in death by his son Steven and his sister Mary Lou Winslow. He graduated from East High in Rochester, spent a short tour in the US Navy before attending St. Lawrence University & Albany Law School; receiving his BA & JD respectively. Curt was a practicing attorney in Honeoye Falls and the Rochester area for more than 35 years then took an active role in the Delhi Telephone Company, Delhi, NY, as GM, CEO and President. He and his wife moved to Keuka Lake and have enjoyed the Finger Lakes area ever since. We will remember Curt as a thoughtful, caring and gentle man who showed his love of family, friends and others in his community through his participation and commitment to service to others. Curt touched many lives through his actions in volunteerism, leadership and guidance in the multitude of activities throughout his life. In Honor of Curt memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life Open House, Sunday October 13th, 1pm-4pm at the residence of Lisa & Jim Kanaley; 23 East Street, Honeoye Falls, NY.
