Mary was the school nurse when I started teaching at Manor & the high school in the fall of 1978. I just found out about her passing and wish I had been there to celebrate the beautiful, gentle soul she was. I remember using the barn at her house To build a float for the parade. We had a music themed float and I loved it, the whole experience of being there and working on it with everyone. My sincere condolences to the family and know that I remember her with gratefulness.

Mary and I worked at Manor School. As the school principal, I depended on Mary to run her office efficiently. Not only did she accomplish that task flawlessly but she did it with a sweet smile. Being a school nurse is no easy task and Mary had to help parents and their children through some difficult times. Mary always had compassion and empathy for parents needing extra help. I’ll miss Mary for the many conversations we had while working together.

When I started my position as principal at HFL I was fortunate that Mary was still the school nurse for my first year. Smiling, confident and assuring me that bumps, bruises and the occasional dislocated bone was all in a days work. She was a delight to know and such a caring passionate soul. Condolences to the family. Michael Hagerman.
