Obituary of Alva L. Schumacher

Alva L. Schumacher (Shraeder) of Honeoye Falls passed away December 1, 2020. Alva was born on March 25, 1915. She was predeceased by her husband, Clayton (1992), her parents, Amos and Cora (Hinderland) Shraeder, one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and W. Thomas Makin, Jr., and one grandson, Daniel Makin. She is survived by her daughter, Diane (John) Ely and her son, Dale (Ginny) Schumacher. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren; Deborah (Bryan) Cordle, Melanie (Shawn) McDiarmid, Eric (Shyla) Makin, Michelle (Charles) Perkins, Karen (Brad) Dickinson, Linda (Omar) Perla, Julie (David) Detweiler, Joel (Alyson) Schumacher, Jill (Joe) Borrero, and Jodie (Josh) Evans. In addition, 26 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren survive her. Alva graduated from Pittsford High School and then attended Geneseo Normal School. After graduating from Geneseo, she taught in one room schools in both East Bethany and Porter's Corners, Mendon. Her next employment was in partnership with her husband, Clayt, in running the Sibleyville Inn, which they did for 30 years. Alva also enjoyed being a homemaker; cooking, sewing, and taking care of her family. A devout Christian, Alva was a lifelong member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mendon, NY. She was active in many church events, and thoroughly enjoyed her time singing in the church choir.
