Obituary of Nancy May Merz

After a hard battle with cancer, Nancy May Merz (Barrett, Mellis) passed away on January 22, 2022, while in Hospice care, at the age of 90. Nancy was born on November 19, 1931, in Rochester, New York to Gilbert F. Barrett and Annie Sterling. She and her brother, Richard J. Barrett (Lillian deceased), had a wonderful childhood. Nancy was predeceased by Daniel T. Merz, her loving husband of 20 years. She was a nurturing and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Nancy had many friends and touched many lives. She was proud to be a member of the Rush Ingelside Club and the St. Joseph's Church in Rush. She is survived by her children, Donna (David) Butterbaugh and Brian (Elaine Smith) Mellis; stepchildren, Mary Diltz, Kathleen Bauman, Daniel Merz Jr., Thomas Merz, and Elizabeth (Scott) Christ; grandchildren, Dustin (Cheryl) Butterbaugh, Jessica Butterbaugh (Kevin Avery), Julia (Steven) Ham, Kacey Lynn (Jon) Chilton; great grandchildren, Jonathan (Brittany) Butterbaugh, Tia Avery, Aaron (Cailyn Sieg) Butterbaugh, Kevin S. (Kayla) Avery, Alyssa Butterbaugh, Josephine Caiazza, Addison Oakley, Dylan Ham, Julia Rose Chilton; step grandchildren, Blossom Merz, Jeffery Pembroke, Jennifer Paynter, Nickole Bailey, Rachael Burns, Grant Bauman, Sonny Jenkins, Mathew Merz, and Morgan Christ; great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Bob) Oeschger and Laurel (John) Conderman; nephew, Jay Barrett, and nieces Laura Barrett Chambers and Cindy Barrett. No prior calling. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Marianne Cope Parish in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 6105 Rush-Lima Road, Rush NY at 10 am on Thursday January 27th followed by her burial at Pine Hill Cemetery, Rush. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to UR Medicine Hospice, 2180 Empire Blvd. Webster, NY 14580
