Obituary of Harvey H. Seymour

Rush Born April 9 1932 and passed away February 24 2023. Predeceased by his wife Margrethe, his sisters Jane and Ruthamay and close friend Joan Starkweather. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth; daughter Gail (Pritish), and son David; grandchildren Monica, Mark, and Marete and great - granddaughter Estelle. He is also survived by many loving nephews and nieces. Harvey grew up in Irondequoit NY and attended John Marshall High School for two years before transferring to Oakwood Friends school near Poughkeepsie NY. He graduated in 1949. Harvey then enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed near Anchorage Alaska as an airplane mechanic. While in Alaska Harvey took up alpine skiing at a ski area maintained by the military. He served from 1951 to 1955. Upon returning to Rochester he began working at Kodak and held various jobs from maintenance to research assistant. Harvey also began attending the University of Rochester evening classes. The result of a blind date Harvey met a young lady from Copenhagen Denmark. She was Margrethe Vengberg and she worked at Strong Memorial Hospital as a lab technician. After a short courtship they soon married. Harvey graduated from the University of Rochester in 1961. He had studied chemistry and English and combined with his mechanical background he was well prepared for his eventual career as a technical editor at Kodak. Harvey had many other interests not the least of which were effecting change through participation in social activism and local politics. Beginning in the 1970s, Harvey and Margrethe took the family in a new direction by raising dairy goats, chickens and geese. Over the course of some exceptionally snowy winters Harvey became proficient at cross - country skiing and entering many local citizen races. Retiring from Kodak in 1986, Harvey honed his fitness and skiing skills but also had time to travel and visit his daughter and her family especially when they settled in Florida. Harvey continued to ski well into his late eighties.
