I served with Russell in the
Rotary Club as well as on the
Mendon Town Board in the 70's,
He was a man of few words but had much common sense, and a subtle sense of humor.
He will be missed.

Every year as I plant or dig up in the fall my gladolius, I think of the 2 years, in the fall, when I worked with Russ and his wife picking up the 'glad' corms from the up turned furloughs, so that the glads could be stored over the winter. I got to know "Vi" the neighbor who also worked picking out the glads. Good memories.
I was the Matthews mail carrier, too.
Friends and family are not dead as long as the living remember them in their hearts and memories.

I shall miss him. He was like a father to me when I Lived with my sister & him. He loved farming, reading and telling jokes. He also enjoyed traveling around the world & telling us what he had seen. Good-by Russell.

My sincerest sympathy to the family. Russell was a favorite farmer of mine. He would come into our office in Avon and sit, making himself right at home. We would give him a cup of coffee and then he would share the latest joke or a story to make all of us laugh. I will always cherish the times we had together. I am certain that he has a special place in heaven. His sweet chuckle will never be forgotten.
