Obituary of Eileen H. Havens

Eileen Hutchinson Havens of Mendon, NY died on October 26, 2018 at age 91. Survived by son Gregg (Joan) Havens; daughter Ellen (Brian) Kjar; son Todd (Colleen) Havens; son-in-law Martin Dehmler; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert S. Havens; daughter Joan Havens Dehmler; son Gary Havens; parents, Robert and Marion Johnson Hutchinson; sisters, Joyce Crumb, Lois Havis, and Helen "Layna" McCabe. Eileen was a lifelong resident of Mendon and devoted her life to her family and serving the community. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Mendon; Mendon Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary; and Mendon Historic Preservation Commission. She served as a Mendon Cemetery superintendent; Boy Scout den mother and pack leader for Mendon Pack 105; elections volunteer; and organizer of the annual Honeoye Falls Central School reunion. She was inducted into the Honeoye Falls–Lima Alumni Hall of Fame. Eileen also volunteered several days a week for over a decade at the Benincasa Hospice in Mendon, where her caring heart and calm presence were a much valued part of this service for the Greater Rochester Area and surrounding communities. Eileen and Bob traveled to Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, and nearly all states of the United States, including Alaska. They established global friendships and hosted several international teachers. Up to the day of her death, she continued exploring the world through her lifetime enjoyment of books. A Life Celebration for friends and family will be held Saturday, December 1 at 12 p.m. at the Mendon Fire Department.
