Good Bye old friend and God Bless
When Marge and I entered the crowded lobby of the church and saw that big photo of you. I thought this is like the kaleidoscopes we played with --everyone has their own piece -- together making up the entire photo ,
When I spotted the wooden CB beer taps on the table with other rememberences
--;I secretly wished ---they were connected to a keg --(I could of used some Caged Alpha Monkey ),,,to try to muddle through the your funeral service.
At 10:00 am – before filing in to the service –I stepped to the back of the church to gather my thoughts. –it seemed like the beautiful light snow had just stopped –like one those kids toys----- with the Winter scene – you shake it – and it clears ….
Unfortunately, Over the years we had attended many funerals together ---you would be the one I would talking about this stuff with ,,,
Mike , you would of found this one to your liking---Rev.Jerry and Rev.Greg gave such soothing and comforting remarks ---Jon and mayor Rick captured your your unique essence -- highlighting your kindness and over generosity—The Kleenex box had to be refilled--
–---Luanne , whose love you often said was single most transformative force in your life –meeting Luanne was like a miracle--- that forever changed your life. You always mentioned you never let you down-- and she certainly didn’t this time
Although visibly grief stricken Jovan, Jonny and Josh -- would of made you proud ,, with their support and remarks. Jovan and Brianna are a lovely couple. You told me who much how loved Brianna – and she was a wonderful mother for Lilliana ..Steve Smithers flew in from Tampa -your four year roommate –at BU—one of the members of traveling party___ that biked over land from Boston to Denver.,,,,,,Bob Davis , his lovely wife Cathy,---- your friends---( when you were living in California) ---made the trip from Michigan -- accompanied with their son dressed in cowboy attire
–.Robbie Gottas and John Drummey ---took time out from their busy schedules -- to fly in to Honeoye Falls show their families’ love and support.
Mike -- Don’t worry Jovan , Jonny ,Josh , Robbie and John – will carry one the tradition
.
.Due to circumstances, your sister Debbie -- could not be there physically –But her spirit oozed everywhere inside of me when I looked at the photos of the Alcorn family (..Chloe put together in a very tasteful and moving photo slide show tribute .,,,)
Remembering that it was Debbie -who came down to our lockers in second grade to tell us--- President Kennedy had been shot - – and we have to get the bus – because school would be letting out early
Marge and I were driving up to Rochester – and we received a beautiful email photo from Debbie -- < of you and I enjoying some beer flights -- at Jacks Abbey Brewery>
Many years ago in the early 2000’s you had sent out a Christmas card –I had been in the hospital in December and really didn’t get much of an opportunity to open at my Christmas cards—you called and said did you get my Christmas card --I replied I didn’t know,,, you sd you have to check---- and I’ll wait on the phone --I was going through the shoe box in which I stored the cards and----- could not find that it --I was about to say I don’t have it --- -- ,,,,,there was one more card in the bottom of the plastic bag holding the shoe box—,,,,,,,I found it ! Mike sd …..open it! You have to open it ! -The X-mas card had photo of you and Luanne—with Jovan ,Jonny and Josh, --- and inscribed Merry Christmas from the Alcorn Family— we both wept and cried tears of joy --
I know you sd Mendon was your adopted home town –it was the place you had livedcontinously the for the longest period of time – a beautiful place with great people.—with so much community spirit------
Fortunately , I had the good fortune of meeting a few people-- I only knew by name –from your Kodak days --Hal and Rick and their wives..,,,From CB-- Chloe and Cody – their families and so many others ,,etc –You would have proud the way Mendon came out to support you

Good Bye old friend and God bless
For Mike's seventh birthday his parents promised him a gigantic bithday party. He was told he was able to invite fifteen kids to the party.---thus, he received fifteen invitations to distribute.He thought for a couple of days about---who should not receive nd invitation. There were not enough invitaions for all the kids in our second grade class. He did not want to leave anyone out He figured out a plan-------- in crayons he hand made enough inviations for the remaining students in our second grade class.Everyone in the class received an invitation. March 30th the day of the party finally arrived. Mike mom and dad had a beautiful birthday cake in rhe dinning room. Peggy ,Gail and decorated the house. They were planning several games and party activities......Kids armed with presents----just kept on ringing the door bell.It turned into organized chaos..
Mrs. Alcorn and his three sisters tried to restore order ------but it was in vain. After that episode Mrs. Alcorn made it clear there would be no more birthday parties...
Peggy, Gail and Debbie were wonderful us.
Dick was out of the house and was seldom there. I think he was Illinois and Lake Forest colkege because he brought us Lake Forest sweatshirts.when Dick was there he would always take my side.After a while, I had to turn myself into Dick and confess-----your sisters were right ----I was wrong. Peggy,Gail and Debbie were saying ----you can always take their side----because you don not have to deal with them all the time......He paused and said I know-----but sometimes you just need support.But remember when you are speaking to my sisters.....---a team of horses cannot withdraw the spoken word.

(Passage from Lebonese Poet
KAHIL. GIBRAN.
(i am not sure---but i think it from The Prophet.......)
It was but yesterday we met in dream,
you have sung to me in my aloneness
And I of your longings have built a tower
in rhe sky
But now our sleep has fled and
Our dream is over,
And it no longer dawn
The noon tide is upon us and our half waking has turned into a fuller day
And we must part
If in the twilight of memory
We should meet once more,
We shall speak again together
And you shall sing to me a deeper song
And if our hands should meet
In another dream
We shall build another tower in the sky
-Kahil Gibran-

Good Bye old friend and God bless
For several years, I had the opporunity to join the the Alcorn family for their summer vacation to Moxie Cove in Maine. For most of the years we would drive up with his parents. However, we even enjoyed going up a summer during college. Mike drove up in a car he purchased from working.He had started working at Demarini's variety store when he was in 6th or 7th grade,,,,,,then moved to the Stop & Shop grocery store during high school
.....We went up on a Saturday. WE decided to go to see singer Harry Chapin perform at an outdoor concert ,,,,,before we headed up to Maine...{Harry Chapin had songs like "Taxi" and "Cats in the cradle and the silver spoon")
We were getting ready to leave the concert because we thought we heard all the songs.He played on more song that we had never heard. "All My Life is a Circle".
and Harry Chapin --kept the audience singing several verses of that chorus.....by saying one more time. We kept singing that song and chorus in the car---all rhe way to Maine.
.
ALL MY LIFE IS A CIRCLE
By Harry Chapin
All my life's a circle;
Sunrise and, sundown;
Moon rolls through the nightime;
' Til the daybreak comes around.
All my life's A circle;
But I can't tell you why;
Season's spinning around again;
The years keep rollin' by.
It seems like I've been here before;
I can't remember when;
But I have this funny feeling;
That we'll all be together again.
No straight line makes up my life;
And all my roads have bends;
There's no clear-cut beginnings;
And so far no dead-ends.
[Chorus]
I found you a thousand times;
I guess you have done rhe same;
But then we loose each other;
It's like a children's game;
As I find you here again;
A thought runs through my mind
Our love is like a circle.
We loved going ro Maine.,,,,getting up a 4:00 am to go on the boat and go fishing with Mike's dad. I never caught so many fish.Mike' s mom would make delicious meals from the fish we caught.Peggy would come up from Boston.Gail and Art would drive down form Waterville.Debbie was living there for the summer ---waitressing in local lobster/seafood restaurant. It was so much fun to ĺookout a the beautifuly rugged Maine coast and catch up with everyone

Good Bye old friend and God Bless
Little knowing how little I knew---- It is difficult to confess and concede to almost six decades ---since we met on the first day of kindergarten----in the sandbox
However the years were kind...... when you moved away in the third grade--we still able to keep in touch--- by talking on the phone atleast once a week (our parents gladly added unlimited long distance service)
We also alternated spending school vacations---at the home of each others family--Even going as far as keeping a small amount of items- (clothes,sports equipment etc..)--in special section of each others dresser drawyers---To ensure we were prepared for the next visit, ,
Even though we were now in different school systems-- on these visits,,,,,,, we tried to infuse as much sports as possible into the curriculum____we devised plan to read the same books for our book reports.This served two purposes: (1) we could discuss important points, compare notes and anticipate the teachers questions;--------
-(2) We would try read books that that would serve as material for a project in another academic subject.----For example, Jackie Robinson orJim Thrope,,,,,,,,,, ,
But for one our fifth grade book reports ---we hit the jackpot----We found a book on Lou Gehrig------which could be used for both English and Science......
Our favorite part of that book----was poem on the bottom of a trophy--that Lou Gerig was given by his Yankee teammates--on fan appreciation day------
TO LOU GEGRIG
We' ve been to wars together;
We took our foes as they came;
And always you were the leader,
And you played every game.
Idol of cheering millions,
Records are yours by the sheaves;
Iron of frame they hailed you
Decked you with laurel leaves
But higher than we hold you.
We who have known you best;
Knowing the way you came through
Every human test.
Let this be a silent token
Of a lasting friendship's gleam,
And all the that we have left unspoken;
Your Pals of the Yankee team.
(Poem on Lou Gerig's Award by John Kiernan
July 4th 1939)
