Jack was well loved in Rush-Henrietta! My particular fond memory was when I suddenly became responsible for recommending redistricting students to different schools. Jack came to my office and gently told me the “rules” to follow when it came to transportation issues! An example was Pinnacle Road had to be split between elementary schools because no one wanted children crossing that road to get on a bus.
He and I talked through a lot of the issues but my favorite part was his sharing the knowledge of particular corners... like the gray house with the white shutters on the corner of whatever road has to go to whatever school because of.... Jack knew every street, every obstacle to safe transportation down to the colors of the houses he was talking about! I was amazed... and delighted with how helpful he was.
Thank you Jack... we all loved you!

Carolyn, I am sorry for your loss. By the number of people at the service it is a tribute to how many people Jack touched during his lifetime. One of my memories of Jack is on my first day of first grade I got on the wrong bus going home. When the bus didn't go anywhere near Martin Rd. I knew I was in trouble. When we got back to the bus garage the driver took me into Jack's office and he told me not to worry he would take me home. Seeing Jack that day made everything better.

Jack was a class act in everything he did; he thought before he acted and he had amazing common sense. No matter how many years passed between seeing each other, he always remembered a shared story or acquaintance and had a laugh to cheer you. He dearly loved his family and he loved working and helping others. Your family has an abundance of cherished memories that will keep him with you always.
My sincere sympathy and prayers.

To Carolyn and Jack's Family,
My heart goes out to all of you and to those lives touched by this wonderful man. I met Jack while teaching at RH. I observed the huge importance of having a man like Jack managing a complex, essential public service. Jack lived his job.,,always accessible
and personable. A true professional .. ,he made a difficult job look easy. After retiring, running into Jack was always special. Jack will be missed, but never forgotten.
Peace to all of you. Bob Marinetti

Jack was a family friend for many, many years. He played baseball with my dad,Al Thomas. He hired myself and my brothers to bale hay for him. He also took care of my dad's sister,Dorothea Beane, who lived across the street in R-H Townline Road. I echo all the previous comments above. RIP,Jack.......Dave Thomas (the 4 Thomas boys!)

My sincere condolence to Jack's family. So many fond memories of him walking the halls of our school before the afternoon
bus run, attending parties for faculty gatherings, always giving smiling greetings. May fond memories comfort all of you at this
time and may the prayers of so many friends and family members sustain you now and in the days to come. Jack was a humble, strong, delightful presence wherever he went. (On a comical note, I thank Jack for the snow days we had as teachers! He was a major decision maker in those days. SAFETY FIRST!). Rest In Peace, Jack.

Jack Gaffney was one of the nicest persons I’ve ever met. He took Libby and me on a bus tour of Rush-Henrietta when we joined the Leary staff. He was an exceptional colleague and friend. In retirement, he drove one of the small bus routes out of Leary each day. He was wise, gentle, and truly cared for the district and its students. My late husband had great respect for him. Jack always made me smile. Rest In Peace dear friend, you will be greatly missed. Much love to Carolyn, Martha and the rest of his family.
