Obituary of Joseph S. Ferriter

Joseph Sweeney (Joe) Ferriter, 80, of Honeoye Falls, NY, passed away on May 28th at home. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul of the Cross Roman Catholic Church in Honeoye Falls on Saturday, June 3 at 11am. Coffee hour for fellowship to follow at the Church Hall. Burial will follow at 2pm at St. Paul of the Cross Cemetery, West Main Street, Honeoye Falls. Visitation will be held at Merton H. Kays Funeral Home on Friday, June 2 from 4-7pm. Per Joe's request, casual dress for visitation and the funeral service. Joe was born in Utica, NY to Joseph and Norma Ferriter on December 3, 1942. He went to high school in New Hartford, NY and graduated in 1960. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. He worked as an Electrical Engineer for Gleason Works for 37 years until his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed lawn work with his son, general tinkering, helping neighbors, getting into and then solving problems with unusual solutions, and practical jokes on his family and friends. Joe spent a tremendous amount of time helping some Corning families rebuild after the flood of 1972. Joe was involved in Boy Scouting for over 20 years and earned The Silver Beaver Award for service in 1988. Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years Lois, son Doug of West Bloomfield, daughter Jody (Jeff) Beckett of Honeoye Falls, and their three children Kiernan, Tucker, and Nora Beckett. And by his brother Herb (Diane) Ferriter of Syracuse, sister Elizabeth (David) Forsythe of Horseheads, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who he delighted in, and much-beloved life-long cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Norma, and brother David Ferriter of Elmira. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rochester School for the Deaf Office of Engagement, 1545 St. Paul Street, Rochester, NY 14621 and the Lipson Cancer Center https://rrhgive.org/giving . The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the excellent compassionate care from all the staff, nurses and doctors at Lipson Cancer center since 2016 (whom Joe looked forward to visiting with every appointment) along with Dr. Sherry Ehrmentraut and Rochester Regional Hospice Care for their expedient and compassionate service on his last day.
